Warm Ups/Stretching
It is important to prepare the body for dance moves as many of dance moves involve motions that we do not commonly make. Stretching and easy repetitions prepare the muscles and the mind for what’s to come, and helps prevent injuries.
Warm up exercises must be done at the beginning of each class. Find ways to make warm-up exercises as playful as possible. Put on energetic music to get you ready to dance, be sure to cover all muscle groups (necks, shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, backs, waists, legs, knees and feet) in your stretching regimen.
Be careful to avoid injury; don’t jump into anything too quickly! In cool weather muscles may be tight; in warm weather be sure to take water breaks and stay hydrated.
